During this COVID-19 crisis it has been refreshing to take a few steps back and see how, in the midst of such a negative situation, people are continuing to build community within the confines of social distancing.
One of the purest representations of this need to express community comes from the children in my neighbourhood. When going for walks I am continually reading messages of hope in a rare and unashamed way that only chalk and cement can communicate. I want to share some pictures I have taken of these messages.
See them in the context of the battle between social distancing and the need to express connectedness through the actions of children.
When reading messages like this it brought me hope and a feeling that I am not alone. I think this simple form of communication is as powerful as it is childlike. Perhaps we as adults might benefit from writing messages like this to one another.
I wanted to share what’s been happening in my community and also leave you with some messages of my own.
Your life has meaning, value, and purpose.
You are worth the “inconvenience” of bettering your life.
You are not an accident and you’re stronger than you think. There is a hidden superpower within you that is lit when stoked by those around you. Connect with others that want the best for you. Be brave. Be uniquely you. The world needs what you have to offer.
Oh and here is one more photo I took of the local fire department surprising a little girl on her birthday by holding up signs and sounding the horns on the fire truck.
I pray you all are doing well amidst the difficulties of what is happening around the world. As you walk on your journey through life, I hope you find a path full of messages like this.
We are in this together.
